Dammit! Changing the oil on the 90 Mini and I find this as I’m cleaning up. Crap.

Isn’t that washer supposed to go on the drain plug BEFORE you screw in the drain plug?
LOL
Something like that happened to me this past weekend.
Was rotating the tires on my car and after I had done 3/4 tires, I noticed a marking on the tire that said the tires were directional.
Thankfully I only hand to move one tire to the correct side.
Still... pretty annoying... especially since these are just cheap off-brand winter tires that came with the car that I’m ‘using up’ and will likely
replace by the end of the year.

Attach a shop vac to the oil fill and turn it on before you pull the drain plug. You’ll lose very little oil :)

Turn the car over, replace washer, flip many back onto the wheels.

Truth. I’m running the high copper Penn Grade oil in the car as well since the engine and gear box share lubrication. That stuff is not cheap.

Honestly, I'd catch it in a clean pan and reuse it.

Should have. I had dumped the old oil into the new pan and just took a breath and dumped the oil I had just put in it and refilled.

That makes it hurt even more!

Pro tip, put a rag in between the vacuum hose and the oil fill tube, cuz oil and shop vac motors combine their powers to make foul smelling smoke, if things go sideways.
